چکیده

In the hen, injection of either vasotocin or oxytocin caused expulsion of the egg 1 to 20 hr prematurely (Rzasa & Ewy, 1970). The effect of these hormones on pressure within the uterus (shell gland) is reported. Fifteen New Hampshire, laying hens (no egg in utero) were used. Hens were anaesthetized with sodium phenobarbitone (160 mg/kg) injected i.m. Intrauterine pressure was recorded on a kymograph from a water manometer con¬ nected to polyethylene tubing and a latex balloon of 30-ml capacity. After the balloon had been introduced into the uterus through the cloaca, it was

Effect of threonine in position 4 in oxytocin and vasotocin analogs on the time course of uterotonic response.

The substitution of glutamine by threonine in position 4 of oxytocin, deamino-oxytocin, deamino-1-carba-oxytocin, and deamino-6-carba-oxytocin was found to increase the elimination rate of all analogs examined from the uterine receptor compartment in rat. However, this substitution was without any effect on the time course of uterotonic response in the case of vasotocin and deamino-vasotocin. T...

Effects of estradiol and oxytocin injection on the efficiency of artificial insemination in Iranian Zel ewes during the breeding season

In sheep industry, pregnancy rate after artificial insemination (AI) declines due to the complex anatomy of the cervix in ewes, such that it might prevent effective intrauterine insemination. At estrus, cervical relaxation occurs to some degree in ewes, which is regulated by the changes in the levels of reproductive hormones. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of estradiol and intravenous...

The anorexigenic and hypertensive effects of nesfatin-1 are reversed by pretreatment with an oxytocin receptor antagonist.

Nesfatin-1 is an 82-amino acid protein encoded by the nucleobindin2 gene. When injected intracerebroventricularly, nesfatin-1, via a melanocortin 3/4 receptor-dependent mechanism, potently decreased both food and water intakes and elevated mean arterial pressure in a dose-related manner. Because nesfatin-1 colocalized with oxytocin in hypothalamus and because nesfatin-1 had direct depolarizing ...

Spinal effects of oxytocin on uterine motility in anesthetized rats.

The rat uterus receives an innervation from the lumbosacral and thoracolumbar segments of the spinal cord. These segments receive descending oxytocinergic projections from the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. We tested the hypothesis that oxytocin regulates uterine motility through a spinal site of action. Oxytocin was administered in anesthetized female rats either intrathecally at...

Effects of central oxytocin receptor blockade on water and saline intake, mean arterial pressure, and c-Fos expression in rats.

Central injection of ANG II has been proposed to have dual effects on salt appetite including a direct stimulatory effect and an indirect inhibitory effect through an activation of central oxytocinergic neurons. The inhibition was demonstrated by pretreating rats with central ornithine vasotocin (OVT; oxytocin antagonist) 30 min before a central ANG II injection. The OVT pretreatment produced a...
